Welcome to VocabMaster ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience on our mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App. By accessing or using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information to provide better services to all our users.
- Account Information: When you register, we collect your email address and authentication credentials to secure your account.
- User Content: We store the vocabulary words, definitions, images, and study decks you create or upload.
- Learning Data: We track your study progress, quiz scores, strengths/weaknesses, and usage streaks to personalize your learning experience.
- Device Information: We may collect information about your mobile device, including device model, operating system version, and unique device identifiers (for push notifications).
- Diagnostics & Error Logs: To improve app stability, we collect anonymous crash reports and error logs when the App malfunctions. These logs help us identify and fix bugs.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To Provide Services: To create and manage your account, sync data across devices, and deliver the App's core functionality.
- To Improve the App: To understand how users interact with our App and identify areas for improvement.

4. Third-Party Services
We may employ third-party companies and services to facilitate our App ("Service Providers"), to provide the App on our behalf, or to perform App-related services.
- Supabase: We use Supabase for authentication, database hosting, and real-time data synchronization.
- Firebase (FCM): We use Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver push notifications to your device.
- RevenueCat: We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and validate in-app purchases.
- Google Gemini API: We use Google's Gemini AI service to power AI-driven features in the App, including vocabulary generation, image-based text extraction, writing grading, and speaking practice. See Section 4a below for full details.
These third parties have access to your Personal Data only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.
4a. Third-Party AI Data Processing
VocabMaster uses Google's Gemini API, a third-party artificial intelligence service, to provide AI-powered learning features. Before any data is sent to this service, we ask for your explicit consent via an in-app prompt.
Data Sent to Google Gemini API
The following types of user-generated content may be sent to Google Gemini for processing:
- Text inputs: Words, sentences, essays, and written responses you submit for vocabulary lookup, translation, writing grading, or sentence evaluation.
- Images: Photos you upload for vocabulary extraction or text scanning.
- Audio recordings: Voice recordings submitted for pronunciation analysis and speaking practice.
Data NOT Sent
- Your email address, username, or any personal profile information is never sent to the AI service.
- Your payment information is never sent to the AI service.
How Data Is Processed
- All data is transmitted securely via encrypted HTTPS connections.
- Data is sent through our secure backend servers (Supabase Edge Functions) — your device never communicates directly with the AI service.
- Your data is not used to train the AI model. It is processed solely to generate a response for your learning activity.
- Google's use of data is governed by their Gemini API Terms of Service and data processing practices.
Your Choices
- You can accept or decline AI data processing when first prompted in the App.
- You can change your preference at any time via Settings > Preferences > AI Data Processing.
- If you decline, AI-powered features will be disabled, but you can still use manual flashcard creation, study modes, and all non-AI features.
5. App Permissions
The App may request access to certain features on your device:
- Notifications: To send you study reminders and streak alerts. You can manage this in your device settings or App settings.
- Camera & Photo Library: To allow you to upload images for your vocabulary cards or scan text from images. Images are processed locally or uploaded to your private storage bucket only at your request.
6. Payment Processing
We do not collect or store your credit card or payment information. All subscriptions and in-app purchases are securely processed by the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). Your payment information is subject to the privacy policies of these respective platforms.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. You have the right to request the deletion of your account and all associated data at any time. This can be done directly within the App via Settings > Delete Account. Upon deletion, all your data (including decks, words, and progress) is permanently removed from our servers.
8. Security
The security of your data is important to us. We use industry-standard encryption protocols (SSL/TLS) to protect data in transit and at rest. However, remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.
9. Children's Privacy
Our App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with Personal Data, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from children without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.
